Dietary supplements (including herbal medicines) were a $71 Billion market worldwide in 2017, of which $7 Billion was the US market. Pharmacists and other healthcare professionals need to know the place of herbal medicines in therapy and consider clinically important herb-drug interactions. Accurate information on St. John’s wort, ginseng, garlic, goldenseal and other botanicals will be discussed, including clinical situations (cases) where the pharmacist, nurse, physician, and acupuncturist need to apply the information to improve patient care.
