Jena Sussex, M.D., was born and raised in California. She received a Bachelors of Science in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention at USC. Her interest in preventative medicine led her to volunteer as an HIV pre- and post-test counselor in Los Angeles and abroad, and on graduation she was honored with USC’s Global Scholar Award for her work with infectious disease prevention programming in Tanzania. She went on to complete her medical degree at USC and is now a practicing Resident Physician in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at a large urban public hospital in Los Angeles.
Dr. Sussex has presented clinical research at local and national conferences, and is actively involved in research on cardiovascular disease across the lifespan. Always interested in promoting the effects of lifestyle and plant based diet in preventative medicine, she seeks to practice what she preaches and enjoys eating a vegetarian diet, sitting in meditation, and staying active and outdoors with surfing.
For the 2019 Ojai Herbal Symposium, Dr. Sussex will speak on “Turmeric — Modern Therapeutic Applications of an Ancient and Powerful Herb.”
